We will go into more depth about the FIWARE community and the Open Source ecosystem it has generated. We will go through its basic components, an introduction to Smart City Platforms with special emphasis on their basic architecture using <em>open source<\/em>. It will explain how the platforms can be used from a technological point of view by companies that want to offer services to cities, defining data models or how data is uploaded or consumed. It will also examine the benefits of this technology for cities and\/or regions in relation to the benefits for companies.
