The Magna procession held in Malaga on 30 October 2021 has been the setting chosen to carry out a pioneering pilot test of the performance of the new 5G technology, deployed by Telefónica in the city centre and at the University of Malaga, as part of the European R&D&I project. ‘5Genesis’- which has enabled real-time monitoring of large crowds of people, with the aim of detecting possible risk situations.

For this purpose, autonomous video cameras have been installed and six local police officers have carried 5G mobiles, capturing and consulting video in real time from different points along the route. In turn, these images have been sent to the image control centre, also connected by 5G, installed by the police in the Larios hotel in the city centre, to monitor the magna.

A live demonstration was carried out from this mobile emergency centre, in which the promoter of this project, the director of the MORSE group of the Institute of Technology and Software Engineering of the University of Malaga (ITIS), Pedro Merino, explained its main advantages.
