Awards Ceremony of the 1st Teleco Olympics
This is a nationwide initiative organised by the COITT/AEGITT and the CODIGAT and with the collaboration of numerous telecommunications schools in Spain. The aim of this event is to promote telecommunications, scientific culture, technology and innovation among students of ESO, Bachillerato and intermediate and higher vocational training to awaken scientific and technological vocations. The aim is to help them discover, learn about and value the contribution of science and technology in our lives, as well as to understand the fundamental elements and procedures of scientific research and methods.
The Olympiads challenge participants to develop a project that links telecommunications with the environment. Sustainable Development Goals of Agenda 2030, The project will promote knowledge of the areas in which telecommunications are present in the daily life of society. It can be carried out by developing a prototype programmed on any programmable platform with the Arduino IDE that demonstrates how telecommunications help to achieve SDG 11: SUSTAINABLE CITIES AND COMMUNITIES.
The awards were sponsored by Promálaga, the Telefónica Chair at the University of Malaga and the CompanyON Chair, which includes the companies Bullnet Capital, Dekra, Ericsson, Idneo, Keysight, LDA AudioTech, Premo y Tupl.
Around 100 people filled the hall in a relaxed event in which participants and their families, as well as representatives of the secondary schools, celebrated the work, effort and passion that has characterised these Olympiads from their earliest stages.
In the modality by equipment, The projects were all aimed at contributing to the achievement of SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities. The winning schools were:
- First Prize: St. Stanislaus of Kostka School, from Malaga.
- Second Prize: l I.E.S. Las Flores, from Álora.
- Third Prize: MIT School Málaga
In the modality individual, The winners of the competition, in which high school students solved a test of physical-mathematical ingenuity, were the following:
- First Prize: Marta Muñoz Barceló (Colegio San Estanislao de Kostka, Malaga).
- Second Prize (ex aequo): Rubén de Haro Gómez (I.E.S. Las Salinas, de Fuengirola) and Sebastián de la Torre Gil (Colegio Maristas Nuestra Señora de la Victoria, Malaga).
- Third Prize (ex aequo): Yasmin Chergui Faouzi and Alejandro Baldwin Serrano (both from I.E.S. Las Salinas, Fuengirola).
The members of the management team of the E.T.S. de Ingeniería de Telecomunicación, the Director of the School, Fali Godoy; the Deputy Director of Communication, Social Projection and Environmental Sustainability, Eduardo Pérez; and the Deputy Director of Teaching and Quality, Fernando Ruiz; accompanied the participants and encouraged them to persevere in the pursuit of their vocation, with effort and dedication which, as demonstrated in these days, are not incompatible with enthusiasm and fun.
